Abstract

Although the effect of niacin on the glucose levels in subjects with diabetes mellitus has been investigated, niacin's effects on the glucose levels and atherosclerosis in subjects with normal glucose levels have not been well established. We examined the effect of niacin on the glucose levels, coronary stenosis progression using quantitative coronary angiography, and clinical events in 407 subjects who had a baseline glucose level <100 0.3="" 12="" 17.9="" 19.7="" 21="" 29="" 2="" 3="" 4.05="" 4.8="" 85.2="" 85.6="" 9.5="" 9.6="" 90="" 95.5="" a="" active="" although="" an="" and="" armed="" associated="" atherosclerosis="" baseline="" be="" between="" blood="" both="" but="" by="" cardiovascular="" carotid="" change="" compared="" composition="" conclusion="" coronary="" developed="" developing="" diabetes="" did="" differ="" dl="" during="" enrolled="" events.="" events="" familial="" fasting="" for="" forces="" frequency="" from="" glucose="" groups="" had="" hdl-atherosclerosis="" however="" impaired="" in="" incidence="" incident="" increase="" increased="" larger="" less="" levels="" likely="" lipid-lowering="" major="" mean="" mellitus="" mg="" more="" mri="" new-onset="" niacin-treated="" niacin="" normal="" not.="" not="" observed="" of="" or="" overall="" p="0.001)." plaque="" progression="" reduced="" regression="" risk="" significantly="" stenosis="" study="" subjects="" taking="" testing="" than="" the="" therapy.="" those="" to="" treated="" treatment="" untreated="" use="" vs="" was="" were="" who="" with="" within="" without="" years.="" years="">
